Who is this course for?
This course is for people who can confidently centre at least 500g of clay and throw a cylinder independently. If you’re still developing these skills, we recommend taking our six-week Introduction to Throwing course first.
Each week introduces techniques to help you work with more clay, explore different shapes and refine your finishing skills.
Week 1 — Throwing larger forms
Learn to centre larger amounts of clay and pull taller forms, developing greater control over height, wall thickness and proportion.
Week 2 — Plates and dishes
Learn to secure and use a throwing bat, open out wider forms and compress the bases of plates and dishes.
Week 3 — Shaping and altering
Build on your larger forms, exploring how to change their shape and narrow their necks through collaring.
Week 4 — Trimming and finishing
Learn to trim wide forms, refine their bases and use a chuck to support pieces during trimming.
What’s included
Three finished pieces are included in the course fee. We will fire and glaze these for you in our white studio glaze.
Additional pieces can be kept, fired and glazed for £8 per item.
